Do You Want Some Ginger Figging With That?

I know, on the surface it sounds like something that would be at home in an orchard or possibly a topping for a high quality ice-cream. I heard about Figging immediately before starting to write this article with no pause and as I don’t even know yet what I think, I thought I would share my journey with you.

I should explain. You know how doing a creative thing means you will brainstorm with yourself. Well a random idea that popped into my mind was simply that I know after eating root Ginger, it appears to send a warm sensation through my body which may result in potentially a Ginger enhanced form of sexual stimuli. Maybe not the most exciting start to an idea but they are all good in a brainstorm.

Then I realised that I didn’t really know what women thought about the effect of Ginger and after putting ‘Women, Ginger’ into google I naturally got everything to do with red haired women.

After expanding the search to “Women, Root Ginger, Sex” the very top of the list was Figging. I don’t know what it says about search engines or humans or the subtlety of language or why only the fifth result wasn’t about it, bear in mind I have never heard of it until now and so naturally I put “Men, Root Ginger, Sex” into google (it is fifth) and it becomes clear that I have never put these exact words into a search before or appreciated this particular BDSM activity existed.

I removed the word “root” and had to go to the second page before any results for it came up, so even though ignorance is no excuse it is going to be the one I am using today.

Naturally, the dichotomy between writing in this context and admitting this kind of innocence is clear but it gets worse as adding the word “history” reveals the activity may date back far more than a thousand years.

It is actually a really good sensation. To rephrase that, I don’t mean Ginger Figging is a good sensation, I only heard about it five minutes ago – I mean it feels good to discover something about human sexuality that I have genuinely never heard of after having had a specific fascination with it for such a long time. Naturally it now seems obvious and many of you reading this may hold such parties weekly yet surely we can all relate to the joy of discovery.

So now I know a little more about the things people have been doing with herbaceous perennials and perhaps you can now share my confusion as to where exactly the Figs are involved.
